Community Supported Extension

Dr. Edward Page
Colorado State University Extension
Small Acreage Management Agent

(This is a DRAFT for a program in the development stage - please feel free to make suggestions!)

This is a new concept that we are working with in an attempt to bring you the best services possible at the lowest cost. The idea is to create a comprehensive package combining a number of educational and problem-solving services, which our experience has shown most people will need and want. Potential inclusions in this package for an annual fee (to be determined at the time when content is set) are:

1. A set number of farm visits/consultations each year
2. A farm development plan
3. Admission to all extension educational programs and tours
4. A tour of participants properties
5. A series of basic, 2 hour, evening, information classes (which could contain some of the following or additional topics by request)

a. Understanding West Slope soils
b. Understanding water and irrigation methods
c. Establishing forage for pasture or hay production
d. Weed control and prevention
e. Grazing management
f. Haying management
g. Basic livestock management
h. Farm bookkeeping
i. Understanding and managing your tax status
i. Options for making money on your property, and

6. A quarterly newsletter, which informs and educates you on small acreage issues.

The basic fee for this package of instruction and problem solving will be set so that you will have a cost savings over the materials if they were purchased on an individual basis.
