Experience:

1988-2003 - Colorado Agricultural Experiment Station, Western Colorado Research Center, Fruita CO. Responsible for research programs involving integrated management of insect and mite pests attacking field crops and vegetables.
1986-1987 - Agro Engineering, Monte Vista CO. Managed crop pest scouting program for agricultural consulting firm.
1976-1979 - Michigan State University Extension, Centreville MI. Pest scout in commercial field crop and vegetable production in southwest Michigan.

Program description:

The entomology/agronomy extension program covers insect diagnostics and insect management concerns within the Tri River Area. The program focuses on using research as a basis for solving local insect problems in agriculture. Extension workshops are conducted on important local issues as needed. A significant amount of time is spent responding to calls regarding horticultural and homeowner entomology. Current education and research programs include:

• Workshops on timely issues such as mosquito/West Nile Virus control and pinyon Ips
control for homeowners
• Insect management for commercial sweet corn growers
• Management of onion thrips and Iris Yellow Spot Virus in onions
• Biological control of field bindweed with Aceria malherbae
• Management of insects affecting production of native plant seed
• Late season cutting schedule impact on alfalfa health
• Insect diagnostic laboratory
